ABOUT GIRLS
Guilty About Girls is the latest
formation of former Pure members Jordy Birch and Mark
Henning.
After
suspending Pure in 2000, Birch released his solo album,
The Fun Machine (Virgin Canada) in 2002, which garnered
the top 10 single Moola Moola. Henning had departed
Pure after a final performance at the Starfish Room
on new year's eve 1995. He formed the power pop
group Blisterene which was disbanded in 1998. Focusing
on studio work for the next decade Mark engineered many
local Vancouver bands until 2005 when he turned his
focus to his own music again in the duo Combine the
Victorious.
In
2007 Jordy and Mark were joined by Lucas T Poth on drums.
The experiment led to them recording a set of 2 minute
indie pop songs which formed the basis for their debut
release: EP1, featuring the single, 'Karaoke With Me'.
The
upcoming collection of songs, titled "VRGN ANGL
MTRL LUV" is set for release in early 2009: impressions
of songs inspired by a multi-platinum selling pop music
diva. A departure from EP1, the new songs represent
something closer to "grunge house" than
indie rock.
Guilty About Girls has scored yet another hit with their first single "Candy Candy". Released digitally on the Boutique Empire imprint, Candy Candy hit #14 on the Canadian national charts and their debut digital album "The Very Best of…" reached #1 on the iTunes Electronic Album charts on the same weekend the video for Candy Candy was added to Much Music. "The Very Best of…" has just been released through Black Top Records (Ontario) on CD.
As of Spring 2011 the two are composing new material for a summer release, with a tour being booked in support. A vinyl release is in the works, also to be put out by Black Top Records and Boutique Empire.
