COMBINE
THE VICTORIOUS
Combine The Victorious is Mark
R. Henning (record producer/member of Guilty About Girls)
and Isabelle Dunlop (fashion designer/ member of Sex
With Strangers). They have been writing music together
since 2005. The first song they finished, Blue Kitchen,
became a tv theme song. So far there are two Combine
the Victorious releases: their debut album, The World
Over, the more anthemic of the two; and the Disagreements
EP, written after the euphoria of sanguine creation
had subsided.
The
initial band consisted of five members, Isabelle and
Mark at the centre, with Jesse Smith, Marc Wild and
Nick Jones backing them up. With the second EP there
was a shift towards drier and simpler production. Disagreements
features Todd Simko (former Pure guitarist) and Kevin
Jones (drummer of The February March). Lately they have
stripped it back to performing as a duo. The "King's
Cross" video was recorded completely live in studio,
as much to rediscover the song as to document their
performance.
As
of their eighteenth show, they have now had the pleasure
of performing in front of a sold out crowd at the 10th
Vancouver Pecha Kucha night, PKN10 - Vogue Theatre,
April 8th.
Blurring
from an indie rock beginning, Combine the Victorious
is currently exploring the boundaries of electronics
and traditional song writing. They released their new
single "A Very Fun Life" as part of the first
ever Boutique Empire compilation: Rec'10.
